Enslaved Persons Named: Lucy, Andrew

On August 17, 1847, Eliza E.C. Smith, of Bryan County and guardian of Eliza G. [or J.] Smith, “now the wife of Joseph P. Smith,” and Marian Smith, “both minors and orphan children of David Smith late of said county deceased,” executed a bill of sale for “a certain negro woman named Lucy, aged twenty one years, and her child Andrew, aged three years” to John O. Perry for $683. She had put them up for sale at “publick outcry at the court house of Bryan County,” after receiving permission of the Bryan County Court of Ordinary. Joseph P. Smith, husband of Eliza Smith, one of the minors, also signed his consent to the sale. Witnessed by Elenor ? C. Smith and Henry E. Smith, J.I.C.B.C. Recorded on July 24, 1848, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk [of Liberty County].
