Enslaved Persons Named: Jimmy

On October 3, 1848, Ann S. Baker, Liberty County, administratrix of the estate of Richard S. Baker, sold to Mrs. Susannah Sanford for $350 “a certain negro fellow named Jimmy about forty eight years of age, which negro fellow I warrant to be sound & well and to be a slave for life.” Ann Baker had put Jimmy up for sale at the door of the Hinesville courthouse “within the legal hours of sale on the first Tuesday in October” and Mrs. Sanford was the highest bidder. Witnessed by W.S. Baker, T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on October 22, 1848.
