On November 29, 1847, William E. Scriven [alt: Screven], Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $350 to James F. Baker, through his agent George W. Walthour, a described tract of land on Colonels Island and “the following negro slaves, Ben, Lucy, Molly, John, Charles, Buck [alt: Beck, Back], Nancy William Dilia [alt: Delia] Sam…” Witnessed by William C. Stevens, G.W. Dunham, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on December 31, 1847, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
