Marriage Settlement (Parker/Todd)

Enslaved Persons Named: None

On July 3, 1847, John W. Todd created a trust for his wife, Jane Todd, for the property she inherited from her former husband, Solomon Parker. Wiley [alt: Wyly] Baxter was the trustee. Just below this trust deed was a record of their mutual separation; Jane Todd, according to the document, had removed to her father’s house in Liberty County and was not willing to return to John. Therefore the trust was created for protection of the property she inherited from her father. Wiley Baxter was identified as her brother. [NOTE: Although the “property” inherited from Solomon Parker was not specified, it is possible that it included enslaved people, so this information would be useful for tracking what happened to them.] Witnessed by E.H. Bacon, H.F. Horn J.P. Recorded on October 22, 1847, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
