Enslaved Persons Named: Nanny, John, Teller, Lewis, Levy

On November 18, 1859, S.S. Barnard and C.E. Barnard used as collateral on a promissory note of $2508.73 in principal and $175.62 in interest to the executors of the John Lambert estate (Thomas Mallard, Ezra Stacy, William Q. Baker, William Jones, John B. Mallard) “one lot of land in Walthourville and county above said with the improvements thereon, known as the lot recently owned by W.R. Gignilliat and bought by said W.R. Gignilliat from H.M. Stevens also the following negro slaves with the issue of the females viz. Nanny about 48 years of age, John about 30 years old, Teller about 28 years old, Lewis about 24 years old and Levy about 20 years old.” Witnessed by A. ?Oemler?, M.V. Pritchard, Wm. R. Pritchard, Walter S. Chisholm Not. Pub. C.C. [Chatham County]. Recorded on December 10, 1859, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. 

 

“Darien, Novr 30th, 1859. 

Received from Solomon S. Barnard Twenty Seven Hundred Dollars in full for the within property, bought from Henry M. Stevens for which I promise to warrant and defend from all claims whatsoever. [Signed] W.R. Gignilliat. In presence of T.P. Pease, J.H. Hall, James M. Harris, Armand Lefits, Not. Pub.” Recorded on December 20, 1859, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
