On April 1, 1859, Thomas W. Fleming, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $2887 to Rev. I.S.K. Axson, Chatham County, “the following named negro slaves to wit Abby, Cyrus, Betsey, William Joe Louissa and Phillis with the issue of the females.” Witnessed by Chas. G. Griardeau, W.P. Girardeau, John Girardeau, Not. Pub. Recorded on April 21, 1859, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied I.S.K. Axson. Entered this 30th May 1863. S.A. Fraser.]
