On February 9, 1859, Thos. [Thomas] W. Fleming, agent for Miss Hettie A. Quarterman, executed this deed: “State of Georgia, Liberty County } For and in consideration of the sum of five dollars to me in hand paid and for divers other good and valuable causes and considerations I do hereby discharge and release the within named negro slave Billy from all claims and demands which I have against him either in law or equity and release him from all mortgages which I hold against him.” Witnessed by W.P. Girardeau, S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C. Recorded on February 9, 1859, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
