On January 1, 1858, Josiah P. Stevens, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $850 to I.S.K. Axson, Chatham County, “the negro slave March.” Witnessed by Thos. [Thomas] W. Fleming, S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C. and recorded by S.A. Fraser, Clerk, on February 23, 1858. [NOTE: Marked on the deed was “Satisfied, 12 Jany 1859, I.S.K. Axson. Entered this 7th Feby 1859, S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”
