On February 8, 1858, Alexander S. Quarterman, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $400 to Mrs. E.R.N. Winn, Liberty County, “the following negro slaves to wit: black Sam & Rose, Sam aged 16 years & Rose aged 23 years.” Witnessed by H.A. Quarterman, W.S. Norman, Notary Public. Recorded on February 12, 1858, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
