On January 30, 1858, John P. Mell used as collateral on a promissory note of $535 to M.D. Mooney “the following property to wit: a certain negro girl named Martha Jane, twelve years of age.” Witnessed by A.B. Daniel, E. Daniel, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on March 3, 1858, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
