On August 22, 1857, S.M. Varnedoe sold to Leander Varnedoe, trustee for Annie C. Ladson, for $700 “a certain negro woman named Lucy aged about forty two years.” If she were to die without children, Lucy was to go to Jacob H. Rokenbaugh Ladson. Witnessed by Geo. [George] W. Ladson, J.E.O. Varnedoe, Cladia [Claudia?] Varnedoe. Probated by Geo. W. Ladson. Recorded on February 16, 1858, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
