On April 20, 1857, William Hughes Junior and William Hughes Senior used as collateral on a promissory note of $1007.26 to  the executors of John Lambert’s estate (Thomas Mallard, Ezra Stacy, William Q. Baker, William Jones, John B. Mallard) “the following property to wit: Two negro Slaves, Prince about forty eight years old, and Jack about fourteen years old.” Witnessed by John S. Norman and E. Daniel, J.I.C.L.C. on April 21, 1857. Recorded on May 18, 1857, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [NOTE: Written on the deed was “Satisfied May 4, 1863. Jno. B. Mallard, Ex’or Jno. Lambert. Entered this 1st June 1863. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.]
