On June 17, 1857, Harriet S. Handley, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $2453 to George W. Walthour, Liberty County, “the following negro slaves to wit, Sharper, Jack, Isaac, Charles, Caty, Bacchus & Sam, both the children of Caty, Affee and William.” Witnessed by Charles S. McKinnie, Jno. Bl Mallard, J.J.C.L.C. Recorded June 25, 1857, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [Written on the deed was “The within mortgage cancelled this day by the consent of all parties. Savannah Jan’y 31st 1860. Wm. Curtis. I do hereby certify that the mortgage was thus satisfied in my presence. Jan’y 31st 1860. Jno. N. Staley. Entered this 5th March 1860. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
