On January 27, 1857, James S. McCulloch [alt: McCollough], Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1417.37 to Geo. [George] W. Walthour, Liberty County, “the following negro slaves viz. Isaac, Sary, Bella, Lucy, Rosanna, Jane, Clara, ? Mitton ?, Chany, Susan, Phebe, Phillis, Tenah, and Jacob, together with the future issue & increase of the females.” Should McCullough not pay his debt, Walthour would have the right to sell the named people, with any amount left over to be returned to McCullough. Witnessed by Geo. T. Handley, Alex. S. Quarterman. Recorded on March 10, 1857, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [Deed was marked “Satisified A.S. Morrall, this 11th day of Feby 1860. S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.]
