Enslaved Persons Named: Joshua, Joe, George, Peter, William, Georgia, Binah, Jenny, George, Frank, Solomon, Jacob, Sacky [or Sucky?], Nancy, Catherine, Betty, France, Toby, Charlotte, Dianna, Charlotte, Stephen, John, Margaret, Jeffry and Boston (plus three unnamed children)

On August 5, 1854, William Henry Bacon, Liberty County, contracted with John Savage, Chatham County, to sell to him for $2000 his one-third share in the estate of his grandmother, Mrs. Martha Bacon, who had left her estate for the use of William Henry Bacon’s uncle, Eugene Bacon, during his life. The estate was comprised of 900 acres of land in Liberty County, except for one tract containing 160 acres in “one of the Cherochee Counties of Georgia,” including various tracts lying near the road leading from Hinesville to Walthourville “and also the following named negro slaves, to wit: Joshua, Joe, George, Peter, William, Georgia, Binah, Jenny, George, Frank, Solomon, Jacob, Sacky [or Sucky?], Nancy, Catherine, Betty, France, Toby, Charlotte, Dianna, Charlotte, Stephen, John, Margaret, Jeffry and Boston and three children whose names are at present unknown,” in addition to personal property. Per this contract, William Henry Bacon’s ⅓ interest in this estate was to pass to John Savage upon Eugene Bacon’s death. Witnessed by S.S. Moody, Geo. [George] W. Wylly, Not. Pub. C.C. recorded on August 2, 1856, by S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.
