Transfer (Walthour)

Enslaved Persons Named: Flora, Harriet, and Louisa

On January 1, 1856, William L. Walthour transferred “three certain slave viz. Flora, Harriet and Louisa the daughter of the said Harriet” to Wm. O. Fleming, trustee for Walthour’s wife Sarah M. Walthour, formerly Sarah M. Fleming. He stated that he had become “possessed of [them] in right of his wife…” and was “desirous of settling upon and securing to the said Sarah M. the said three slaves as well as all other property whether real or personal to which the said Sarah M. may hereafter become entitled whether by inheritance or otherwise on certain trusts and conditions.”  Wm. O. Fleming was to have full authority to sell all or part of “said property” upon written request by William L. and Sarah M. Provisions for the death of either or both also included. Witnessed by J.T. Rowland, Wm. O. Fleming, T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on March 4, 1856, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
