Deed of Gift (Wilkins)

Enslaved Persons Named: Georgia, Phoebe, Grace, Nannie

On May 9, 1855, Ann B. Wilkins, Liberty County, “in consideration of the natural affection and love that I bear for my three nephews, Hamilton Wilkins, A.G. Wilkins, J.C. Wilkins and my niece Susie E. Wilkins do give and deliver to my brother Joseph C. Wilkins in trust for my aforementioned nephews and niece the following negroes viz. Georgia, Phoebe, Grace and Nannie.” Stated that she had delivered “the above named negroes” to Joseph C. [Wilkins] as the trustee. Witnessed by V. [Valentine] Grest, S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C. Recorded on May 15, 1855, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
