Enslaved Persons Named: Peggy, Alice, Samuel

“At the Superior Court December Term 1853, of Liberty County, a decree was obtained authorizing Gideon B. Dean Trustee for Mrs. Sarah E. Handley to sell certain bank stock owned by said Sarah E. Handley, wife of Washington Hendley, and purchase Negroes with the money obtained for the bank stock. This is to certify that Mr. Dean did sell the bank stock and purchased three negroes, viz. Peggy, Alice and Samuel with the money and other monies, and that we have received and have in our possession said negroes from Mr. Dean trustee as aforesaid. Witness our hands and seals this seventeenth day of March in the year 1855.” Signed by W.W. Hendley and Sarah E. Hendley. Witnessed by Philip M. Russell. Recorded on April 11, 1855, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
