In March 1854, William B. Fleming used as collateral on a promissory note to Thomas W. Fleming, executor of James Wilson Winn, “the following named slaves with the issue of the females, To have and to hold said slaves (viz) Nanny Little Sharper Hercules Samuel Chloe Malbro Missouri and Sarah worth according to valuation three thousand and ten dollars said slaves being already subject to a mortgage to the executors of the estate of Lambert…” Sale was to be null and void if  “the said WIlliam B. Fleming his heirs executors or administrators shall pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas W. Fleming Executor as aforesaid his executors, administrators or assigns the two following notes to secure the payment of which this mortgage is given (to wit) due note for six hundred dollars dated Liberty County Feby 17th, 1854 payable to William B. Fleming, or order at either of the Banks in the city of Savannah signed by H.J. Stevens and endorsed by the said William B. Fleming, and also one other note for four hundred dollars dated Feby 23, 1854, payable to Thomas W. Fleming Executor of James Wilson Winn or order with interest from date and signed by the said William B. Fleming.” Witnessed by Jno. F. Guilmartin, Not. Pub. C.C. Recorded on March 13, 1854 by S.A.
