Enslaved Person Named: Ophelia

Mary J. Bacon, Liberty County, gave to her granddaughter Mary Jane on October 19, 1863,  “a certain negro girl named Ophelia about eight years old and her future issue and increase…” She appointed her son-in-law Simon A. Fraser as trustee for “said property” and laid out instructions for inheritance. Witnessed by Ann M. Hines, F.E. Fraser, I. F. Calder. Probated by F.E. Fraser, referred to as “she,” before S.A. Fraser, C.S.C., and recorded on October 19, 1863, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
