“State of Georgia, Liberty County } Received of Miss R. L. Mallard the sum of sixty dollars in full of my share or portion in a certain negro girl named Ellen about twenty years of age belonging to Estate Thomas Mallard, and valued at six hundred dollars, my portion being one tenth of said valuation this 18th Decr. 1861.” Witnessed by E.J. Delegal, V. Grest, S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.” [Signed by] Jno. B. Mallard. Recorded on 12th June 1863 by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. 

 

[Second Document] “State of Georgia, Liberty County } Know all men by these presents that We Thomas S. Mallard, B.A. Busby, Wm. S. Baker administrator Est. C.S. Mallard, L.J. Mallard, Harriet N. Bacon, L.L. Varnedoe and Robert O. Mallard all of the County and State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars each and for divers other good causes and considerations, do hereby relinquish all our right title claim and interest, to a certain negro girl named Ellen about twenty years of age, belonging to the Estate of Thomas Mallard and valued at six hundred dollars, unto Louisa Mallard also of said County and State, and unto her heirs and assigns forever.” [Signed by] Thos. J. Mallard, B.A. Busby, Wm. S. Baker admr, Est. J.S. Mallard, L.J. Mallard, Harriet N. Bacon, L.L. Varnedoe, Robt. Q. Mallard.  Witnessed by W.Q. Baker, V. Grest, S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C. Dated December 18, 1861. John E. Baker also relinquished his claim on May 28, 1863. Recorded on June 12, 1863, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
