By virtue of a Liberty County Court of Ordinary order permitting him to sell “certain slaves” as administrator “de bonis non cum testamento annexo” on the estate of Major John Stevens, William C. Stevens, Liberty County, testified on 6 March 1860 that he had advertised the slaves, named Molly & her five children, Alfred, Dembo, Lydia, Corinne, & Adelaide, property of the estate, to the highest bidder at public sale before the Court House door at Hinesville, Liberty County on the first Tuesday in March 1860, and that they were “knocked off” to William L. Walthour for $3800, as the highest bid. Witnessed by H.M. Stevens, Wm. P. Girardeau, Not. Pub. Recorded on 12 November 1860 by Jesse Brewer, Clerk.
