David Rees of Sunbury, “one of the administrators of the estate of Mary Wells, deceased, with the consent of Simmons Maxwell in right of his wife, Ann Maxwell formerly Ann Stuart, granddaughter of said deceased,” sold to Francis Guilland of Sunbury, merchant “…one certain negroe wench named Betty about twenty six years of age in the possession of the said Francis now being formerly the property of the said deceased…” for $300 on January 13, 1798. Witnessed by Alexander Forrester.
