Will Summary (published 1964)
Artemas [alt: Artemus, Artemis] Baker, Last Will and Testament, dated April 5, 1792; no date of probate shown. Bequeaths to his daughter Jean ½ of the tract of land where he lives, he having already given her the other half. Also gives her one-half interest in the slaves “which fell to us from the estates of Jean Low and Robert Baillie.” To his wife Sarah he gives 13 slaves. To son Artemus he gives remainder of his negroes. All cattle and horses to daughter Jean and wife Sarah. He directs that his share of the land on South Newport River be sold, the other part of same being owned by Michael Rudulph. Also directs to be sold testator’s part of the lots in Sunbury (being the part that was owned by estate of Robert C. Baillie), also town lots in Brunswick and his part of the lands on Crooked River owned by said Baillie estate. Also gives to his brother, William Baker. Executors: Wife, Sarah, and William Jeans Baker, and friends John Mitchell, Jr., and Charles Irvine. Witnesses: Ann Baker, John Myers.

To son Artemas: “I give & bequeath…the whole of the remainder of my negroes with their increase forever.”
