John Baker of Liberty County. Last Will and Testament, dated August 1, 1789; probated August 1, 1792. Devises to son Whitmarsh Baker nine slaves and 437 acres on Colonel’s Island “where my lumber yard is”; and to son, John Baker, 11 slaves and 500 acres known as Butterfields Point on Colonel’s Island, and lot 22 in Sunbury. Gives to wife Mary a tract of land and one-half of household goods, 5 negroes and 200L; to daughter, Sarah Rudolph, 300 acres near Canoochee and certain slaves; to daughter, Mary Ann Baker lot #25 in Sunbury and the Half-Moon tract on Colonel’s Island and seven slaves, but if she dies before becoming 16 or before she marries, then same goes to sons John and Whitmarsh Baker. Gives to son-in-law, Mathias Lapere 200L to be paid him when he is 21. Executors: Sons, Stephen, Whitmarsh and John Baker, and nephew Artemus Baker. Witnesses: Adam Alexander, J. Hardy, John Lawson, Jr. Probated on testimony of Lawson.
