Bryan County Sheriff’s Sale (Baker/Sanford)

Enslaved People Named: Glasgo, Mars

On August 7, 1832, Alexander M. Sanford purchased “a negro man by the name of Glasgo [alt: Glasgow]” for $305 as the highest bidder at a Sheriff’s sale at the Bryan County Court House. Glasgo had been seized from Thomas B. Baker based on a judgment against him in favor of Sanford by the Bryan County Superior Court.

On the same day, at the same sale, Sanford purchased “a negro man slave named Mars” for $470, sold apparently based on the same judgment against Thomas B. Baker.

Both deeds itnessed by Wm. [William] Hill, James Butler. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on January 8, 1833.
