On December 22, 1829, at Savannah, Lewis Hines, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $3000 to Ralph & William King and Gandry & Legriel, Chatham County, at the Planters Bank of the State of Georgia at Savannah “the following negroe slaves viz John, Phebe and their four children Simon, Daniel, Emily, Ceasar [alt: Caesar], Stephen, Ben, Joe, Peggy and their four children Sulpher, Sarah, Josiah & Henry, Daphney and her six children Charlotte, Jacob, Cato, Eliza, Sarah & Hagar, together with the future issue and increase of the female slaves.” Witnessed by G.W. Owens.
